Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation must only be performed by qualified practitioners and all the staff are trained in Stuart’s methods and all have a diploma in spinal manipulation.

Manipulation involves the manipulation of the spinal segments which have become hypo mobile (stopped moving), this is achieved through short high velocity low aptitude thrusts to the affected joint.
The benefits of spinal manipulation include reduced pain and inflammation and improved flexibility and also relieve pressure on the joints, as well as reducing muscle spasm. The restoration of normal nerve function allows mobilisation of movement and function. The brains recognition of muscle memory and restoration of normal movement will eventually ‘reboot’ the body computer i.e. the brain.
Spinal manipulation combined with other intervention e.g. taping, stretching massage and exercise will normally settle the problem down.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy can be used for the treatment of both acute and chronic conditions. All our therapists are fully trained to the highest level.

Massage can be an important part of your health maintenance by:
Reducing/eliminating pain
Improving joint mobility
Reduced muscle spasm and muscle pain
Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage
Our massage therapists have worked closely with Stuart over the years and recognise when manipulation of the body part can be useful. This can be done by the fully qualified therapist themselves or by simply asking Stuart or another Physiotherapist to perform the manipulation.
Massage can play a very important role in the short and long term management of an injury. It is also an integral part of a rehabilitation programme and can be used as part of an injury prevention programme or re-occurrence programme.

Acupuncture/Dry Needling

Acupuncture and dry needling is the use of very thin needles through the patient’s skin at specific points in the body.

The needles are inserted at specific depths.
The benefits of this include, decrease of pain, reduction of local muscle spasm, increased blood flow to the area with restoration of movement and return to functional activities of daily living.
Acupuncture and dry needling can be a perfect complement to spinal manipulation. It can be used in the acute/subacute and chronic conditions.
Acupuncture and dry needling is performed by therapists who are fully qualified and licensed to practice.
